Movies without Music

When I think about movies without any music, are there any?, what would they be like?, how would they differ from movies with music?, I actually think of just the opposite of movies without music--- silent movies (meaning silent from human voice-- all music), Chaplin, Keaton, and all them. I personally find silent movies, especially from those two, to entertain me better than a lot of movies thereafter, with speech.

So I honestly think that movies without music would be boring. Not that entertaining. I can't think of any movies without music, but am quite interested to see them. I wonder if something would take music's place, to compensate for entertainment; what, I don't know.

Sarah mentions in her latest blog that "music sometimes makes it easier to only "half watch" a movie. It almost makes it brainless watching. If there was no music, people would have to pay much more attention to that plot and what was happening."

I think music may help an audience follow a movie, or arise certain emotions that compliment the scenes, body language and plot of the movie, but I'm not sure if I agree that music sometimes makes it easier to only "half watch" a movie because I can't think of an instance of this. Maybe I need a better understanding of half watching a movie.

I think that when music arises emotions, hand in hand with the quality of acting and setting, the mind thinks more about these emotions risen by the film being watched. And the more intense the music touches someone, the more emotions are risen and the more the mind occupies itself with these emotions. Thinking more is harder than thinking less.

I agree with Sarah that a movie without music, to stay entertained, would require much more attention to everything else, because there's no music. But I don't think that this is reason to think that movies with music are easier. It's interesting.

A movie with music: makes you think more because there's music that occupies the mind making you think more

A movie without music: makes you think more because there's no music and you must compensate to occupy the mind by paying attention to other aspects.

Live theater is different . Being in the environment of the story rather than having the television separate you from the story. Live theater provides a connection with the story and audience that TV does not.

Question:

Can you think of a film or a live play that has no music? what is it and how would music change it?
