Response to Amy RosValley "Music & Lyrics"

Amy's question: Is music with lyrics more powerful than music without lyrics?

My Response:

I personally think music without lyrics is more powerful than music with lyrics. By lyrics, did you also mean vocals, using the voice as an instrument. Because I think music with vocals can be very powerful-- for example, pink floyds- great gig in the sky http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lBWY3bli92Y

As in this example, words do not matter. I think words are interchangeable while music is more concrete...

but then theres a song like 'mad world' by Gary Jules, where the lyrics have just as much of an effect on the mood of the song as the music, if not more.

It depends, but I think more can be done with music than lyrics, not including vocals (pink floyd example above)

QUESTION:

When thinking of music without lyrics, does that not include vocals, or do you count vocals as lyrics, even though words may not be established? (pink floyd example above)
